No blacks allowed

“Bar owners near the Workers Stadium in central Beijing say they have been forced by Public Security Bureau officials to sign pledges agreeing not to let black people enter their premises,” the South China Morning Post reported yesterday. It quoted the co-owner of a bar who said that a group of police had recently visited his establishment to order it “not to serve black people or Mongolians.”

Both groups (blacks and mongolians) are among the targets of China’s security crackdown in the lead-up to the Olympics, along with thousands of Tibetans, Uyghurs, migrant workers, petitioners and social activists who are seen as potential troublemakers or protesters. (Globe and Mail)

Good thing there are no black athletes or their families who are going to be attending the Olympics. Oh, wait.

  1. This is sad and revolting and I’m surprised the Chinese government let it slip out.

  2. SO many reasons to boycott that shit.

  3. I think it’s the bar owners who are letting it slip. The article also mentions Africans living in China talking to the paper about it.

  4. It’s surprising that it did slip out, but it really doesn’t sound like something that is completely out of character for China. They’ve got one hell of a track record with human rights.
