Shitty advertising round up

Party like its 1492 at Old Navy: Well isn’t that clever. Let’s all celebrate the history of colonization and genocide with overpriced hoodies. Hooray! “Lest we all think that the arrival of the Spanish in 1492 and the subsequent colonization of the West was a gay old time when the Spanish and Natives partied it up with brotherly love, consider this:(Mayhem Overboard)”

And from Subway:

Yo, Tell Your Crew About Our Newest $5 Footlong – The Chicken Pizziola

  1. Ugh. Professor What If just got trolled for a post talking about Columbus Day as celebrating the history of genocide in America. Hope that doesn’t happen to you.

I think I might have to become involved in advertising in some manner just to try to fight the stupidity and sexism that is so rampant in ads these days…

  2. It seems common to get trolled whenever you talk about anything to do with commonly held knowledge.

You have to wonder if there are any socially conscious people who work in advertising at this point.

  3. I think the Subway ad is worse, because it goes out of its way to be insulting. You can claim ignorance to the genocide and problems brought to the new world, but even the most ignorant people can see the obvious BS that Subway ad is displaying.
