I meant to post about this commercial back when I first saw it, but I must have forgotten.
What they meant to say: Oreos are a universal experience
What they said: Even Asians like Oreos!
Down to the music which is close captioned as “asian melody”, it’s hard to speak to the universal enjoyment of cookies while you go out of your way to otherize one race in relation to the other. Interestingly, in regular rotation, the commercial cuts out the portion where people are entering the train (eating noodles) and talking–but they left the music in, you know to cue you in to their otherness.
